Follett Corporation and Three Rivers Community College celebrated their 40 year anniversary at the 15th Annual Golf Tournament with President Jones (TRCC President) and Mike Lopez (TRCC Dean of Administration) being presented a beautiful plaque by Don Olsavicky (Follett Group VP) and Burce Sumner (Follett CT Regional Mgr) in appreciation of 40 yrs of successful partnership with Follett.

Arthur J. Braza is Honored With the 2012 ACBSP Teaching Excellence Award

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs proudly announces that Arthur J. Braza, professor of accounting, Three Rivers Community College, Norwich CT, has received the 2012 Teaching Excellence Award for the Northeastern Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP Region 1).

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs recognizes individuals each year who exemplify teaching excellence in the classroom. Mr. Braza was honored, along with other regional recipients, at the 2012 ACBSP Annual Conference, June 15-18 in Baltimore, MD.

Professor Braza has served Three Rivers Community College for over twenty years as a professor of accounting. He was chosen based on his work in the classroom as a respected and admired instructor and, also, because he serves as a source of counsel and support to students in his role as their academic advisor. Mr. Braza is consistently praised by students as an approachable, understanding and excellent teacher.
NCCET Announces 2012-2013 Board of Directors

Columbus, OH – The National Council for Continuing Education and Training (NCCET) new officers assumed office on July 1 for the 2012-2013 membership year. Serving as officers on the Executive Committee for 2012-2013 are Rob Clancey, Polk State College, president; Kirk White, Houston Community College, president elect; Darcy McGrath, Johnson County Community College, immediate past president; Mona Rabon, Central Piedmont Community College, vice president for administration and finance; Carla Hixson, Bismarck State College, vice president, programs; Bo Garcia, Lansing Community College, vice president, marketing and communications; and Pamela Murray, Portland Community College, vice president, membership services.

Serving as new national directors for 2012-2013 are Dr. Jerrilee K. Mosier, Ivy Tech Community College and Dr. Patricia Ramos, Santa Monica College.

Continuing in their appointed roles as national directors are Kim Barman, Heartland Community College; Linda Head, Lone Star College System; Dr. Merrill Irving, Oakton Community College; Paul Koehnke, Central Piedmont Community College; Donna Lawrence, Midlands Technical College; and Marjorie Valentin, Three Rivers Community College.

Officers were elected by NCCET members in balloting held in June. Congratulations to the new officers! NCCET looks forward to a productive year.

Ann Branchini, the Academic Dean of Three Rivers Community College, achieves her PhD from the University Of Connecticut School of Nursing

The title of Ann’s dissertation was: "The Leadership of the Pioneers of Nursing Informatics: A Multiple Case Study Analysis". Dean Branchini defended her dissertation on May 2 and graduated on May 5th. She received a Sigma Theta Tau Excellence in Research and Leadership award at the School of Nursing Award ceremony prior to commencement where she was "hooded" by her advisor, Dr. E. Carol Polifroni. Ann will be presenting a paper on some of her research she did prior to her dissertation on the Pioneers of Nursing Informatics at an International meeting of Nursing Informatics in Montreal, Canada at the end of June. Ann is looking forward to publishing several papers from the work she did on the dissertation.

She began the PhD program, at President Jone's suggestion, in 2006, and followed a part-time program of doctoral study until her completion this month. Ann’s area of study in her doctoral work was in qualitative research methods and in the study of leadership in nursing.

Dean Branchini has administrative oversight of all full and part time faculty and staff. She started at TRCC when it was known as Mohegan Community College, in 1987 as an adjunct faculty member. Ann began full time in 1988, and taught in all of the courses of the nursing program and in each clinical area except Psychiatric Nursing. During that time, she was promoted from Instructor to full Professor with Tenure, and became the Director of Nursing and Allied Health in 2000. Ann served in that capacity until 2003, when she was appointed Interim Academic Dean. She became the full time Academic Dean following a national search in 2004, and has been in this position since that time.

As the Academic Dean, her responsibilities include oversight of the entire Academic unit of the College. Ann is responsible for the discharge of a budget that is over a million dollars, which streams from general fund, operating fund and grant dollars. Her area includes all the academic programs, the Tutoring and Academic Success Center, Continuing Education, and all the staff and faculty who support those areas. Her administrative responsibilities include: development and assessment of all programs, including the curriculum and schedule for all programs and all faculty. She has administrative oversight of all accrediting activities in her area including specialty accreditations by TAC/ABET, NLNAC, ACBSP and soon NAYEC for Early Childhood Education, in addition to regular accreditation activities for our college NEASC accreditation.

Ann has been a board member of the Visiting Nurses Association of Southeastern Connecticut for 8 years, and has been the Chair of the Board of the VNASC for the past 3 years.

Brenna Jaskiewicz Honored

Norwich: Brenna Jaskiewicz was recently awarded a Community Service Award “for outstanding contributions on behalf of [Norwich] Adult Education”. She received the plaque on May 24th at the Norwich Adult Ed graduation ceremony.

Along with the plaque, Brenna received a hand written note from all 20 students from the Norwich Adult Ed Transitions class. It was very touching.  Several are attending TRCC this fall, and one, Samantha A. Tucker received a $500 scholarship from a local bank.

Brenna’s Background:
She represents Three Rivers Community College on the Norwich Adult Ed ‘Transitions’ Advisory Board. There is also a class named Transitions that these HS Diploma seeking students take.  The course, which focuses on transitioning to higher ed or training after receiving their HS diploma, used to solely take place at Norwich Adult Ed. A few years back, we started hosting this adult ed course on our campus so the students would feel more connected to college and see themselves as being able to continue their studies as part of a college community.  (Jessie McCoy used to help coordinate that but when she left TRCC and no one took her place right away, Norwich adult ed was afraid this program would be lost.)  Brenna stepped in and made the arrangements along with continuing ed. She secured motivational speakers as well as speakers from financial aid and admissions.
